Estimates shows that more than half of Canada’s food supply is wasted on a record of yearly stats & 49.5 billion of that food waste is highly unavoidable. There are many resources through which the food is wasted. From farms in form of raw food to plate (Servings). On top of this, there is a lot of wastage of food during the production & processing. Hence, finally the distribution process, i.e. in the final process of Supply Chain. Apart from this in the retail industry, food-service and providers & virtually even at home the wastage of food is a common phenomenon. How it’s hurting the environment is a question of greater importance for the Government? Furthermore, the drawbacks of food waste on environmental sustainability are the two key primary aspects that needs immense pondering.

It helps in saving the consumers money in many ways. Hence, brings drastic improvements in the food security according to international standards. It also is a huge step in providing support to the agriculture and food sector.

Primarily, as the agriculture sector in Canada provides huge amounts of profits annually. Significantly, being one of the biggest contributors in the Canadian economic system. The most significant thing that is best for environmental sustainability is the reduction in the greenhouse gas emissions. These are some of the exciting challenges that Govt. has taken care of. Furthermore, with research & innovation they keep finding ways of reducing food waste across the supply chain.

According to World stats regards to food waste. A significant 8% of all the Greenhouse gases worldwide are a result of the food waste. This is not only figures related to Canada, but overall in the entire world.
