Issey Miyake, The Japanese Fashion maker has passed away.

It was reported that the Issey Miyake Studio and Issey Miyake Group announced the designer’s late death. The death happened on August 5th, suffering from liver cancer.

Renowned fashion designer and pioneer Miyake has passed away in a hospital in Tokyo aged 84. Miyake became famous in the 1970s with his work focused on technology-driven designs. Also, bold, vibrant styles , and pleats that resemble origami. Hence, the latter earning him the title of ‘Prince of Pleats’.

MIYAKE DESIGN STUDIO – EST. 1970:

The visionary designer established Miyake Design Studio in 1970 and then went on to develop several scents and fashion lines. His designs were worn by stars such as Miles Davis and Grace Jones and he was also responsible for Apple CEO Steve Jobs’ signature turtleneck sweaters. Even though he officially quit fashion in 1997, he was still in charge of the design direction of the fashion line of his company.

The statement released by Issey Miyake Studio and Issey Miyake Group declared in accordance with Miyake’s wishes, there would be the absence of a funeral and memorial services. Find a collection of tributes to the late designer below.
