With the unofficial end of summer here with labor day in the rearview mirror and days becoming shorter and temperatures starting to drop, fall and winter are not too far away.

Summer was quite enjoyable.  Temperatures were above normal, people were working from home due to COVID 19, kids were also at home with no summer camps available and the roads were less traveled.

Once labor day hit, it seems that the quiet of summer has given way to a level of uncertainty never felt before.

All schools were supposed to start right after labor day. That didn’t happen.  Some schools started. Some have not started. Some don’t even have a start day.

Companies that were working from home were wrestling with the idea of going back to the office in some sort of capacity.

COVID 19 has certainly left an impression on everyone’s day to day existence and it seems that it is not going away any time soon.   The # of reported cases has spiked over the last few weeks and with kids back at University, the numbers are sure to rise with the onset of parties.

How will restaurants survive?  Warm summer temperature allowed for extensive patio usage and a chance to recoup some of their losses while their doors were closed for most of the spring. With fall just days away and cooler temperatures to follow, the days of sitting on the patio of your favorite restaurant are almost over.  With indoor restaurant capacity at 50% or less due to COVID 19, how are those in the restaurant industry expected to survive with their earnings nowhere near what they could be?

The next few months and the lingering effects of COVID 19 will certainly have a major impact on what happens to the restaurant industry.

Meanwhile, our neighbors to the south are gearing up for their November Presidential election.  President Trump, the incumbent vs Gentleman Joe Biden.  People will say it’s the lesser of two evils!  I, for one, if I had a vote, would vote for Joe Biden although his age is a major stumbling block.  I have personally had enough of the rhetoric being spewed by President Trump.  Hopefully, the people of the United States will vote with their heads and flush President Trump and his twitter account down the toilet.

Meanwhile, with social unrest being battled daily in Portland Oregon, the rest of the United States seemed to be co-existing quite nicely since the killing of George Floyd on May 25th   in Minneapolis Minnesota. There was the occasional peaceful protest, nothing compared to what is going on in Portland.

You would think that the Police would learn their lesson. I understand how tough it is to be a policeman and I wouldn’t wish what they go thru every day on anyone.

But, you have to give your head a shake with some of the things they do.

This time in Kenosha Wisconsin on August 23rd, an unarmed civilian by the name of Jacob Blake (apparently he had a knife in his car), while being questioned by police, was walking back to his car to check on his three kids when one of four officers on the call, responded by repeatedly firing shots at the back of  Jacob Blake. I believe the number of gunshots was 7.  Why an officer would have to use a firearm to subdue an unarmed civilian when he had three other officers on duty with him on the call is still up for debate.  Surely the four officers could have controlled the situation without excessive force being used.  Jacob Blake is currently paralyzed from the waist down.

You may ask what does the killing of George Blake have to do with the shooting of Jacob Blake?  Both civilians were and are BLACK!  That’s what this is all about!  Police just don’t understand.  The color of a person’s skin should not be the reason why someone lives or dies or gets shot or not.  If that was me, a white person,  going to check on my three kids while being questioned by police, would I have been shot seven times in the back?  I think not!

Racial profiling has got to stop.  BLACK LIVES MATTER as do ALL LIVES MATTER!

Civil unrest followed with all types of protests, some peaceful and some not so peaceful.

For the first time ever, all major sporting leagues in North America shut down as a result of the shooting.  The two-day walkout by the athletes (Basketball, Baseball, and Hockey) was their way of sending a message.

Some contemplated leaving their respective teams and sports to join their fellow protesters.  Cooler heads eventually prevailed but not before the message was sent.

There are much bigger and more important things in life than sports. Regardless of the millions of dollars, the athletes are being paid, they have had enough.  A majority of basketball players are Black and they were the ones who spearheaded the walkout.  It didn’t take long for their fellow athletes in the other leagues to follow suit.

Money may buy you happiness but it certainly does not buy your safety.  The lockout which would have had major implications on the owners of the teams along with the American broadcast companies are under immense pressure to use their financial clout and to influence their wealthy friends to put their money where their mouth is and step up and support the cause.  Yes, the owners and Presidents of the broadcasting companies are mostly white but when your players who are selling your product are supporting a cause, you must do the same.

COVID 19 vs BLACK LIVES MATTER – Both have turned the world upside down!

MBE is highly active in creating social awareness through social media with regards to social distancing measures and how necessary they have been in the current pandemic. Our goal is to act as a catalyst in helping the Government through tough times and enable them to bounce back from problematic scenarios. The Covid-19 crisis is still having huge repercussions on the financial sector causing catastrophic cash flows problems for most companies due to having no business activities from March to June. Although various restrictions have been loosened for most businesses, it is next to impossible to get back the business they have lost during those  4 months.

Sure the Government has tried to help with their CECRA and CERB programs but like everything else in life, these programs have their flaws.

The Health & Well-being of all our customers, clients, and stakeholders is something that MBE Inc. hopes for on a daily basis. Always take precautions and measures to keep your loved ones safe when it comes to anything regarding COVID-19.
