End of February 2021
AND THEN THERE WERE THREE
I guess I spoke to soon. In our last e-newsletter, I talked about the relative mild winter we have had in the GTA and the little or no snow at all.
Well that all changed very quickly. Just after a nice family day long weekend last week, we awoke on Tuesday morning to a winter wonderland. Lots of snow, anywhere from 15-25 cm and before that, we had bitterly cold temperatures. We had another dumping of snow last Thursday/Friday as well as the weekend. The shovels that I had in my garage certainly got a work out last week. Let’s hope the worst is over as we head into March next week and the so called end of winter a month away.
Well slowly but surely, the areas surrounding the GTA are returning to some form of normalcy. Premier Ford lifted the lockout on surrounding areas of the GTA from the previous Grey zone to Red and Orange last week. What that means is that schools and business are allowed to reopen with Covid policies in place. Social distancing must remain in place. Only certain number of people are allowed into a location at a time based on sq. footage of retail space. Restaurants were finally allowed to reopen for indoor dining but with less tables and all 6 feet or more apart.
You are probably wondering what do I mean when I say AND THEN THERE WERE THREE!
Well Premier Ford felt in his wisdom, that Peel, North Bay and the Toronto regions were still not ready to leave the Grey Zone. The lockdown still applied to those 3 areas with Toronto and the surrounding GTA making up the majority of the population of Ontario.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with the GTA, Steeles Ave separates Toronto from the York region north to south. You can technically walk across the street and shop to your heart’s content in the York region with limited capacity while on the south side of Steeles, everything is completely shuttered except for those deemed essential service. This is something that I can’t understand nor will I ever understand. What is stopping those people who live in Toronto from going to the York region and enjoy fine dining at your favorite local establishment? Absolutely nothing!
The lockdown was scheduled to end this past Monday but the Premier along with Dr. Eileen de Villa, Toronto’s Medical Officer of Health, has decided to keep the three zones under lockdown for another two weeks with the scheduled end of the lockdown being March 8th. I guess that is one way of making a dreary winter even more dreary.
The government has finally succeeded in securing more doses of the vaccine and are continuing to vaccinate those who are most vulnerable (long term care facilities, nursing homes etc) along with their essential care workers and Dr’s and nurses. The second stage will commence around the beginning of March and will include those who are elderly along with essential front line workers and those who live and work in high-risk congregate settings like shelters and community living centers. The third and final stage will be the general population of those who want to get immunized and that may be sometime in the Summer months.
MBE is highly active in creating social awareness through social media with regards to social distancing measures and how necessary they have been in the current pandemic. Our goal is to act as a catalyst in helping the Government through tough times and enable them to bounce back from problematic scenarios. The Covid-19 crisis is still having huge repercussions on the financial sector causing catastrophic cash flows problems for most companies due to having no business activities from March to February. Although various restrictions have been loosened for some businesses, it is next to impossible to get back the business they have lost during those eleven months.
Sure the Government has tried to help with their CECRA and CERB programs but like everything else in life, these programs have their flaws.
The Health & Well-being of all our customers, clients, and stakeholders is something that MBE Inc. hopes for on a daily basis. Always take precautions and measures to keep your loved ones safe when it comes to anything regarding COVID-19.
